Terroir
Part of Domaine du Roncée, the Clos des Marronniers is selected for its particular soil of sandy-clay gravels from the former banks of the Vienne River.
Vines
Only one grape variety : CABERNET FRANC. Planted for about 40 years, the vines are now ready to give low yields of about 35 hectoliters a hectare.
Vinification
The harvest is done manually to respect the quality of the grape berries and selected before being destalked. To vinify this cuvée, we use vats which are equipped with a system of pigeage which is used to get a perfect homogeneity of the vat and a better extraction of aromas and tannins.
Before the fermentation, we are favourable to a cold maceration time of 5 to 6 days. The total vatting time is about 12 days.
Aging
After the malolactic fermentation, 50% of the cuvée Clos des Marronniers is aged in oak barrels for 12 months. The barrels are between 5 to 10 years old. The other half is aged in vats.
Tasting notes
The Clos des Marronniers is a fruity and generous wine. Aromas of woodland fruits, moss or truffle mix with subtle woody notes. The structure is ample, full and charming during the first years which is slowly enhanced over the 5 to 10 years.
